FG to reduce cost of data from N1000 to N390 per GB

Umar Danbatta, Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Telecom Commission, announced that
the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy is aiming to reduce data costs per gigabyte
from N1,000 to N390.
When addressing journalists in Kano, he said this on Saturday.
He confirmed that the current national broadband strategy for 2020-2025 was part of the plan,
adding that Nigeria would have broadband access, cover nearly all areas of the world, and
deploy 4 G networks throughout the country as well.
According to him, the ministry was tasked with designing a strategy and policies for the digital
economy, adding that all the efforts placed in place are meant to push the cost of data down to
N390 as opposed to the N1,000 paid by Mobile Network Operators, MNOs.
Actually the cost has come down to N1,000/gigabyte of data, but the government is saying that
we should be targeting N390 in the next. 3 to 5 years
Since we have all the submarine cables at the landing point in Lagos, we need an invisible
broadband data system.
Indeed, we are following the strategy. There is a system for infrastructure and business licences
that will encourage businesses to sell the data to retail agents, who would sell the data to
citizens, he explained.
Will have be enjoying 200 for 1.5GB Glo , 300 for 1.5gb on mtn and 9mobile 2.5GB for N350
